Our History

This Agency began its operation in November 1940, when A.A. MacPherson opened a Boston office as a sub-agent for a New York firm.

Mr. Alexander Angus MacPherson had been an electrical contractor for twenty-one years in West Haven, Connecticut. In 1944, he formed a partnership to cover all the New England states. His son, Bruce, joined the Agency in 1956 and, in 1964 the Agency was incorporated. On October 28, 1998, the Company entered into an agreement with three key employees: Tom Sabin, Joe Gately and Brian Gardner to purchase the Company.

In January 2001, after a long and productive career, Bruce MacPherson retired.

Eleven years later, in December 2012 after a long career in Distribution and the Agency business, Tom Sabin retired. In January 2022 Brian Gardner retired and long term employee Tom Gibbons joined Joe Gately as an owner and together they are moving the Agency forward into the future.

From 1964 until 1967, the Agency covered all of New England exclusive of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, and then in 1967 expanded its operations to include all six New England states. In 1978, the Agency constructed a larger and more modern warehouse and home office facility fifteen miles south of Boston in Canton, Massachusetts, which is where we operate today.

The A. A. MacPherson Company covers all six (6) New England states – Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island & Massachusetts and Upstate New York for its' successful Utility Division.
